Childhood Dream // K20A Civic Estilo on Volk

Never before I’ve seen a three-page specification list document being submitted to hawk’n’poke’s email. Never before I’ve seen such a simple looking car with tons of work actually been done underneath it. Never before I’ve seen a 1995 car that’s been rebuilt with so much passion. Only in dreams, I thought. But then Mex submitted this K20A Estilo owned by Michael from Connection; this is him sharing to the world his dream-come-true.

I’m sure every single one of you must’ve had that one dream car that you’ve always been very passionate about. Perhaps its a car you’ve had so many good memories in, perhaps its your childhood favorite movie car, or perhaps it’s just a car you’ve fallen in love at first sight. Some might have supercars as their childhood dream cars, while others have classical cars that their parents or grandparents used to drive. Either way, it is simply a timeless car that you one day wish could own and drive no matter how old you’d be when the time comes. I myself have always had the R34 GT-R as my childhood dream car. Not the R35, not the R33, simply the R34. I believe my Gran Turismo and Fast Furious filled childhood has caused me this dream. Michael, on the other hand, have always had the Civic Estilo as his dream car. Once he has gotten his hand on a good condition one from a friend, he started his journey transforming his childhood dream’s Civic platform into a well-built daily driven machine. A machine packed with performance as well as daily-drive reliability. This is a car that some can only still dream of.

I’m no spec-list-geek, but the overwhelming list of modifications is astonishing. The engine currently installed in this EG is actually its third. It has previously been installed with B16A and B18C Type R; right now it’s running with K20A Type R. A lot of the engine internals have also been upgraded, along with airflow, cooling, fuel and electronics system. Such modifications allow the 1995 car to have a fresh breath of air, ensuring a satisfying balance between performance and reliability. These parts aren’t easy to source, though. Michael has had to wait long times for the parts to arrive from Japan and USA. Luckily, being also a popular Civic model overseas, there are a lot of aftermarket parts available.

The exteriors, as you can see, are tightly focused to JDM. Nothing too fancy nor distracting; all of the parts go in line with the car’s original design. I couldn’t agree more to this decision Michael has made in keeping the neat and OEM/JDM look of the car.

Michael doesn’t currently have any further plans for the car. After all, it has managed to be a great combination of daily driver, track car, as well as show car. Best Honda, Best hatchback, Best EG, Best of Show, Best Engine bay, Best Under carriage, Best JDM, Best NA Engine are among its usual list of car show trophies.
